If you think that Thailand's menus are limited to Pad Thai ( yep, that famous fried noodle dish that taste like heaven, or to tom yum goong ( my favorite piquant prawn and lemongrass soup) -- two of the dozen basic dishes fostered by a former Thailand government keen to standardize the cuisine as a tourist lure. Then, you may be missing a brilliant redefinition of "modern" Thai cuisine.

The all new management of Muang Thai Malakas branch has re-bump its menu and restaurant interiors. The once Authentic Muang Thai traditional Thai cuisine restaurant with traditional wood carvings and Thai interiors marries the all new Modern Thai look and cuisine. Don't get them wrong, the heritage of the cuisine is respected, but there is a touch of modernity in the presentation.

Yes, you've read it right. The once much talk about Muang Thai Authentic Contemporary Cuisine has upgraded its menu and interior designs to that of a Modern Authentic Thai. Meaning from wood statues and traditional Thai decor it now sports a new playful elegant look.

Thailand is my favorite Asian country aside from our very own Philippines. We used to celebrate New Year in Thailand and my brother and I both love Thai cuisines. And experiencing both the traditional and modern dishes here in the Philippines via Muang Thai is just awesome. It saves us, Filipinos a lot of time and airfare when we crave authentic Thai food.

I still vividly recall when my brother and I had dine at a modern Thai restaurant in Bangkok, Thailand.  We ended up wanting to go back for more to this so called modern Thai cuisines restaurant because they offer the same wonderful Thai dishes that we used to love and now with a twist.

Muang Thai Fried Rice: This house fried rice is the best for me. It had the perfect blend of meat and seafood. I savored this rice, because it wasn't oily at all. I had myself a second serving because we were not served with rice at our table. We only had the leftover rice of the bloggers on the table on our left side. We only had little portions because the other table almost finish it all up because it is simply delicious.

Stir Fried Broccoli with Beef: This is a must try!  You can't go wrong with this one! The beef was tender, the broccoli still had its crispness, and the sauce was ever so delicious. I can't help but fall in love with this dish.

Crispy Catfish Salad: Crispy flakes of catfish was awesome. It may not look appetizing but it is very delicious. The saltiness of the catfish with the sour & sweetness of the mangoes played well together.

Spicy Mixed Seafood Soup: Pretty much, this Tom Yum! It had the sourness, a nice kick from the peppers, and well cooked seafood Tom Yum should have. The authenticity was shown on this soup when I saw the fresh lime leaves used to make it sour.

Chicken in Pandan Leaves: I loved how tender and plump the chicken was. It had the right amount of saltiness and sweetness that went well with the fried rice.

Sticky Rice with Ripe Mango: This was the pièce de résistance of the entire meal. This not so overly sweet dessert was very vitalizing. The delectable balance of 3 different kinds of sweetness gave me the energy I needed to attend to my business after the event.

Muang Thai is a special restaurant. Location wise, it's not somewhere where most would visit, but I assure the ambiance and the food will make up for it.

Muang Thai is the place to be.  The flavors of the superbly sourced ingredients are intense yet perfectly balanced. The set menu offers the perfect way to experience this cuisine as well as offering surprising value.

The Pad Thai is a sight that always teases the senses, it elevates excitement and beckons an authentic Thai dining experience sadly we were not serve with one but I hope to try it at Muang Thai Restaurant next time I drop by.

SamgyupSalamat Under Korean Alley is getting bigger!

Did you know that?

Samgyupsalamat was coined from the word “Samgyupsal” which means “Pork belly” in Korea, and “Salamat”, which means “Thank you” in Filipino. Combining the two, it makes “Samgyupsalamat”.

It may sound like a word play but it simply means, “Thank you for eating Samgyupsal”.

From only a handful of customers at the beginning, SamgyupSalamat now prided itself with customers waiting in line.

“SamgyupSalamat /Zoomanity Group in UnliCity At Century CityMall were very dedicated in training its staff so we can give our customers an unforgettable experience So they'll come back for more," quips Sassy Punzalan , SamgyupSalamat Operations Manager

"We're very happy  that customers keeps on patronizing us.  We're very grateful that  customers continue to flock in all of our branches.  Some customers even wait in line till 2 in the morning.”added Ms.  Punzalan.

Samgyupsalamat Under Korean Alley can be found in four (4) locations just in a span of less than a year.  Its branches are located  in Metropolitan in Makati, Residence Inn Tagaytay, Century City Mall in Makati and At Alabang Town Center.

ROXAS CITY: Coco Veranda Restaurant

I was invited to taste Davao's iconic coffee -- the Blugré Coffee at Club Manila East together with several other bloggers. The very amiable owner Mr.Benjamin Cuaresma is the one who fetch us from Robinson's Galleria and brought us to Blugré Coffee Club Manila East branch.

I find their location very strategic because it is just beside Taytay City hall and across Club Manila East. Plus, they have ample parking space. They also offer their seminar room, meeting room and other packages to suit your needs.  I think the word that I catch was "consumable" I have yet to verify this.  So, I think it is better if you get in touch with Blugre through their FB page and ask about their packages.

Blugré is an all-Filipino coffee chain that serves Davao's durian coffee.  I find its DuterTEA concoction very witty and shall I word it "timely" because the Philippines current president is Rodrigo Duterte who happens to hail from Davao too.  It comes in hot and cold. A very nice drink that you'll surely love.  Tip: Drink the DuterTEA while it is still hot or warm because it tends to taste bitter when it gets cold.  This is only my personal observation.  Better go and visit them personally to find out for yourself. :-P!

I actually came across Blugré Coffee Kiosk at SM in Davao way back in 2008.  And it was a love at first bite! Their Durian Cheesecake is LOVE!  I was vacationing in Davao and our family friend brought us to a kiosk famous for their Durian cakes and coffee. So, that particular visit was my initial encounter with Durian Cheesecake.  I think it is the best way to introduce someone to an acquired taste like that of Durian.  You can't deny the fact that some people find Durian foul smelling but vouch that it taste like heaven.  To tell you honestly, I don't like the Durian fruit the first time I taste it.  But Blugré coffee tends to masks and drown out the pungent smell and taste of Durian. That makes Blugré Coffee a very good first step to prepare a person about the taste of the real fruit.

Aside from their cakes and coffee they also offer Durian chips, pasta, chicken and breads and even rice meals such as tapsilog, cornsilog and a whole lot more. Maybe, next time I would be able to have a taste test of all of them.  Almost all of it has a hint of Durian when you drink or eat it.

Blugré Coffee also offers Chocnut drink and it is very delicious! I simply love it. You should try it too!
5 Loaves and 2 Fish Restaurant Gourmet Food

5 Loaves & 2 Fish Restaurant is the brainchild of Ms. Dinah Grace M. Miro. She used to observed her mother whenever she cooks in the kitchen then eventually helped her in preparing the family's dinner during her childhood days. She said cooking is her passion. Her interest includes baking and cooking. She's the youngest among the siblings. During special occasions, she would serve home made specialties to her visitors and friends.

On September 2011, Her Lavosh was awarded as the top choice at the ”Ultimate Taste Test” from among 50 plus Best Food entries at the Mercato Centrale event owned by Anton Diaz of Awesome Planet and RJ Ledesma, a famous wedding host and businessman.

Mrs. Miro said that they encountered a lot of challenges before they finally open up for business.  She actually had two trade names in mind when they decided to register the company to the SEC and DTI , but they were already taken. She thought maybe it was not granted because she did not pray for them to Jesus. So, she prayed for an appropriate name to be granted. So finally in July 2015 , she took the inspiration from the bible from the book of Mark 6:41 Loaves and 2 Fish restaurant. And the rest is, as they say, is history.

It was a sunny afternoon when we arrived at the venue. It is a bit far from my home, but I did agree to come because the PR is a good friend of mine.  He is actually my idol. He is a college professor at Ateneo De Manila, La Salle and a pole and aerial fitness professional Instructor.  Plus he is a PR practitioner and many more. So, who could say no to him, right?

The afternoon event began when the PR introduced the owner of 5 Loaves and 2 Fish, Mrs. Dinah Miro. She told us about her childhood and how she eventually developed her own recipes to make up the diverse menu of 5 Loaves and 2 Fish.

5 Loaves and 2 Fish homemade dishes from their salpicao, dips, dressings and sauces were all made from scratch using nothing but the very best locally sourced ingredients.

Lavosh ( Luh -vosh) is an Armenian lavash.  It is a thin crisp unleavened flat bread that originated in the Turkish region. Lavash, lavosh, or lahvosh is paper-thin, crispy, tortilla-like flatbread common throughout Armenia, Turkey, and Iran. 5 Loaves and 2 Fish with the talented Mrs. Dinah Miro has come up with various colored Crispy Veggie Lavosh which is a perfect appetizer that can be dip in either tomato and coriander salsa dip, chicken liver , pesto burlee and garlic oil with dulong fish. The orange colored Lavosh was attained because of carrots. The pink or sometimes red Lavosh was because of beets. I am excited because this coming August, 2017 they will come out with the sweet Lavosh, using cacao. Isn't it amazing? Amazing!

These dips were made with the Filipino palate in mind. So don't worry. You'll like it! One can mix the Lavosh on any or all of the four kinds of dips. I love the liver patee the best.

This perfect appetizer is ideal for sharing between 3 to 6 people. (Php250) per serving.

High 5 Salad– a healthy combination of lettuce leaves, flavorful balsamic vinegar and guava puree blend of pleasant and unique taste. with sundried tomatoes , candied nuts , diced guava , grated parmesan cheese. ( Php 285) per serving

After eating this salad,  I can't help but high five with my blogger friends. Why? Because the sweet and sour flavor of balsamic vinegar and guava puree leaves a unique taste in my palate. I simply love it!

It has parmesan cheese, sun-dried tomatoes, diced guava fruits served with guava vinaigrette. Mrs. Dinah shared to us that it is her husband's favorite.

Rating: 4 Stars

Balayan Salad is a combination of green lettuce, chopped mangoes, roasted cashew nuts and fresh tomatoes with kesong puti ( white cheese) and tinapa flakes plus grated parmesan cheese.  This is the newest addition to their menu. The tinapa flakes does not overpower the taste of the salad.

Rating: 4 Stars

Pork Ribs Barbecue was cooked using a special sauce marinate.  The chef shared that it takes around 4 to 6 hours to cook this particular dish! Imagine that!  No wonder the meat is tender and yummy. It falls off the bone! (Php295) per serving

Rating: 4 Stars

Beef Salpicao is a must try dish.  Cubes of beef tenderloin baked overload with sliced garlic. Cooked in olive oil and their houseblend seasoning. The meat is tender topped with slices of bird’s eye chilies , banana chilies and comes with rice. ( Php 375 ) – ideal sharing between 2 to 3 people.

Rating: 4 Stars

Salmon with Four Kinds of Cheese – Salmon fillet , topped with 4 kinds of cheese and topped with melted cheese on a bed of mashed potatoes. (Php 385) per serving.

Rating: 4 Stars

Lengua with olives and Shiitake Mushrooms– The ox tongue is cooked perfectly with special sauce. I am not fond of Lengua, but this version is really yummy!  It is very tender. Give it a try.

Rating: 4 Stars

Spaghetti with Chicken Parmesan
Parmesan crusted chicken fillet, topped with gooey mozzarella and house blend rich tomato sauce. I also like this!  Super yummy! It cost (Php290) per serving

Rating: 4 Stars

Vongole – This pasta is among the best sellers of the restaurant. It is light but tasty. The clams are fresh. It is sauteed in garlic and extra virgin olive oil with white wine and wedge of lemon.  Served with freshly baked crusty Focacia Bread ( Php299) per serving.

Rating: 5 Stars, my kind of perfect! I super love it!

Tablea Cake is oozing with visual appeal! It is topped with              .  They use 100% pure,  organic single origin trinitarian cacao to make this yummy tablea cake.

One thing more, 5 Loaves and 2 fish source their Cacao from the local cooperative of Chocolate de San Isidro based in Davao. Let's support our local farmers by buying this Tablea Cake from 5 Loaves and 2 Fish.

Rating: 5 Stars

Pastries and Cakes – The restaurant had a good selection of cakes which can be ordered on per slice basis or as a whole.  The price range for their cakes ranges between Php125 to Php 180 per slice. They are not overly sweet compared to some famous bakeshops. Among their best sellers are the Hazelnut-Cocoa Banana Crepe Cake that features 27 layers of sweet crepe fastened by hazelnut spread and topped with dark chocolate shavings, they also offer various cheesecake based cakes such as pink guava cheesecake, matcha green tea cheesecake.  They also have violet crumble dulce de leche, lemoncito de Manille, Orange Almond, Dulce de leche-Salted Caramel Cake

Tip: I super love their Mokacafee Java Malt Cake <3 I miss it terribly!

IMPORTANT NOTE: Prices for the menus, cakes are subject to change without prior notice. For more information about the prices and reservations, please visit the links I posted below.
Anyway, let me show you their fantastic wall decors.  I took this particular photo before the event. Thus, there's no food yet on the table, ha ha ha! I just love the homey feel of this establishment.

Like the owner, I also believe in the old adage that everything happens for a reason!

Live well, Laugh often, Love Much, Dream Big!

Place Overall Rating: 4 stars because it is Instagram worthy and very cozy. The first thing you'll notice when you get inside 5 loaves and 2 fish are the inspirational messages on the wall. My first impression is that the owner is deeply religious. The interior design of this place was done using ingenious materials such as plywood, old wood and recycled table if I am not mistaken. Why only 4 fingers? It took me almost 3 hours and cost me almost Php400 one way to go there so times two equals almost Php800 for my round trip fare. If they have a branch near Makati,  then a week would not pass that I will not eat here.

Food Overall Rating: 4 Stars because everything that was served to us were really yummy. What I love the most is the Vongole. Other dishes that were served to us includes Lengua Estofado, Pork BBQ, Baked Salmon with 4 cheese, Lavosh and the cake slices. They were very generous with their servings. It is good for sharing with family and friends. Why only 4 Stars? Because for me it is on the pricey side.

Service Overall Rating: 4 Stars. The staff are all polite and friendly. Each dish are cooked freshly in the kitchen waiting time will be like 15 minutes or more.

They have a Free Wifi,  just ask the staff for the password

Recommended for family and big groups.
